MEET ROY:
Roy started playing chess a little over a year ago and quickly fell in love with the game. He practiced at school and at home, worked hard, and earned a spot on his school’s chess team. Despite being one of the top players in his district, he was not able to attend the State Championship because he was not part of the Gifted and Talented program.
Roy’s mom reached out to us, and we were able to help him attend State. After qualifying, we helped him make it to Nationals as well. Roy got the opportunity he earned — but it leaves us wondering: how many other children are out there missing their chance because of barriers they cannot control? At RGV Chess & Learning Center, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn, compete, and discover what they are capable of.
